Federal government warned to steer clear of state solar schemes

Australia’s leading sustainable living organisation, the Alternative Technology Association, welcomes the proposal for a national solar feed-in tariff for domestic solar, but has warned the federal government not to be swayed by the states.

Speaking at the Renewable Energy Amendment Bill inquiry the ATA said a nationally consistent, gross feed-in tariff will give homeowners the certainty they need to invest in solar power.

WA solar homes will be the winners this election

Climate-friendly homes will reap the rewards after the Western Australian Government and opposition made election commitments to introduce a gross-metered, solar power payment, says Australia’s leading sustainable living organisation the Alternative Technology Association.

Under the proposals, people who install rooftop solar systems, up to 10kW in size, will be paid 60 cents per kilowatt hour for the electricity they generate, until their solar system is paid off.

Families won’t see benefits under Victoria’s planned solar power payment

The Victorian State Government’s solar feed-in tariff legislation, released today, could disadvantage families and the elderly, says Australia’s leading sustainable living organisation, the Alternative Technology Association.

Stay at home parents and retirees, who use power during the day and won’t produce excess energy, are unlikely to see the benefits of the net-metered solar power payment, says Brad Shone, the ATA’s Energy Policy Manager.
