ATA Submission to the Review of National Framework for Electricity Distribution Network Planning and Expansion

Friday, April 17th, 2009

The Alternative Technology Association (ATA) welcomes the opportunity to provide comment on the Scoping and Issues Paper for the Review of the National Framework for Electricity Distribution Network Planning and Expansion.

ATA is appreciative of the AEMC’s approach in consulting widely on the issue of distribution network planning. ATA’s interest in this policy area relates to how the distribution network planning process can be further strengthened to take advantage of demand side participation, where it can be demonstrated that it would better serve the National Electricity Objective (NEO).

Victorian feed-in tariff to cancel out thousands owed to solar homes

Monday, April 6th, 2009

The Victorian Government’s proposed feed-in tariff will cancel out thousands of dollars owed to solar homes for the clean electricity they generate and feed into the power grid, says the Alternative Technology Association (ATA).

Under the scheme, solar homes selling electricity back to the grid will see none of the 60cent per kilowatt hour owed to them, and instead the payment will be in the form of a credit on their electricity bill that will be cancelled out every 12 months.

SA Greens Campaign to make Electricity Retailers pay for Green Energy

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

South Australian Greens MLC Mark Parnell has recently commenced a campaign to stop electricity retailers in South Australia from getting renewable energy from solar PV owners for free.

In February 2008, the SA Parliament passed laws to create a solar feed-in premium of 44c/kWh for excess power sold to the grid. Some retailers have chosen to replace what they were already paying solar pv owners(between 16-24c) with the 44c premium, rather than as an additional payment. As the feed-in tariff is being paid for by a small extra charge on all SA electricity consumers the retailers are not paying anything extra for the clean, green energy.
