New desalination plant for WA will come at a high price

The Western Australian government is committing generations of households to high water bills by choosing expensive, energy intensive and environmentally unsustainable solutions to the state’s water woes, says Australia’s leading sustainable living organisation, the Alternative Technology Association (ATA).

The approval of a second desalination plant for WA, at Binningup, raises grave concerns over the economic and environmental costs of desalination, says Anjali Brown, Water Policy Manager for the ATA.

Families will take 20 years to pay off solar systems under NSW feed-in tariff

The NSW state government’s solar feed-in tariff legislation will see families taking 20 years or more to pay back the cost of their solar system, says Australia’s leading sustainable living organisation, the Alternative Technology Association (ATA).

Damien Moyse, ATA’s Energy Policy Manager, says the NSW government’s estimate of a 12 year pay back time is not backed by feed-in tariff modeling.

ATA Submission to Inquiry into the Approvals Process for Renewable Energy Projects in Victoria

The Alternative Technology Association (ATA) welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the Environment and Natural Resources Committee’s Inquiry into the Approvals Process for Renewable Energy Projects in Victoria.

ATA understands that the Committee’s focus particularly relates to large scale renewable energy (most notably wind). ATA strongly supports the greater uptake of large scale renewable technology across Victoria and the streamlining of regulatory and approval processes to support this, as one of the main planks of the Victorian Government’s climate change response.

Family First pinches the pennies from household solar power

Senator Steve Fielding has infuriated households and plunged the solar industry into free fall after he left Australians with virtually no support for solar power installations, says the Alternative Technology Association (ATA).

Senator Fielding, along with Senator Xenopohon and the Coalition deferred the Renewable Energy Target (RET) legislation late last night.
