Hi everyone,
Sorry about the lateness of this letter, but I’ve been a bit busy with work. Last meeting was held Al Fresco in a park on the corner of Spence and Aumuller St. Except for a bit of wind, things turned out really well. Geoff Thomas came along to tell us about Terra Preta (Bio-char) and Geothermal power generation. He also brought along his Mini wood gasifier that we used to boil the billy with only a handful of small sticks. Quite a good discussion was had and even some possible projects were discussed.
The Sustainable house day is coming up soon, so if you would like to be a part of this ever growing Australian wide event, get in touch with Emma Thirkell at emma@nqbuild.com.au.
Attached to this letter is an invitation from CAFNEC to be part of the ‘Green Zone’ in the Flecker Botanical Gardens at the Carnival on Collins on Sunday the 6th September. The site is free but they ask that we donate 10% of any take to the Friends of the Botanical Gardens (Fair enough I reckon). I have accepted the invite and extend the invitation to any members (living or dead) who would like to come along to help out. If you would like to be a part of this great event, could you please let me know so that I can get some rostering done (RSVP please by Close of Business Friday 31st August). Remember, the more the merrier.

For all our present and prospective members, we hope to see you at our get togethers that happen on the third Saturday of each month between 2:00 and 4:00pm When not on a field trip, we normally meet at the ENVIROMART Shop on the corner of Scott St. and Aumuller St. on the Southern side of the Cairns CBD

Our next meeting will be on Saturday the 15th August (that’s next Saturday) at ENVIROMART. We will have Manfred Muir from Muirtronics visiting, to carry on a discussion about the new $50-00 Government initiative to install power metering and low energy/water devices in your home (all may not be quite as it seems). Also, there will be information on the Federal Government’s new Green Loan Scheme. So, come along if you have already taken advantage of the offer(s) or if you are just curious.
