Hi everyone,
Welcome to the latest instalment of the ATA (Cairns ) monthly newsletter. Last month’s outing at the Green Living Expo was GREAT!! Put on by the Tropical North Institute of TAFE, there were more than 28 stalls and many workshops and talks. Something for everyone. So many people asking so many interesting questions. People are really starting to think (and act) on this Global Warming thingy.
We had a stall set up with several new books on show and of course all the old favourites. Trevor Hardwick was hard pressed on the day, helping out at both the ATA stall and the Cairns Permaculture display. ONYA Trevor. Many thanks for Ris and Sarah who also popped in to lend a hand for a couple of hours.
As well as the stall, I set up my Air Lift water pump and Methane Digester models. This seemed to draw quite an amount of attention, especially from the country folk who were amazed at the simplicity of the systems.
We finally got the Green Loans booklets and cards. Very popular and many people showed a lot of interest. All the booklets went in a couple of hours. It all seems a little confusing, but as things settle down, undoubtedly people will get the gist of the procedure and reap the benefits. Thanks to all the helpers, you really made it a good, manageable day.

For all our present and prospective members, we hope to see you at our get togethers that happen on the third Saturday of each month between 2:00 and 4:00pm When not on a field trip, we normally meet at the ENVIROMART Shop on the corner of Scott St. and Aumuller St. on the Southern side of the Cairns CBD

Our next meeting will be on Saturday the 18th July when we will have Geof Thomas of Wind Technologies, talking on subjects far removed from his normal area of operation. This month, he will be talking on Terra-Pretta (Biochar) and Geothermal power generation. Geof has been researching these topics for many years and has some wonderful insights, so come along and be enlightened. He may even have some toys to play with.
