Cairns: March Newsletter

Well, it seems that people actually read my newsletters. Last meeting was a flurry of ideas and discussions on activities and visits for the coming year. By the end of the meeting, I think we had at least 12 options for the next 9 months. My apologies to the quieter ones in the group and I acknowledge that you possibly couldn’t get a word in edgewise for us more garrulous types. I promise that in future, everyone will get a go.

I haven’t seen the Green Loan brochures yet, but hopefully they will arrive soon.

Our ATA Branch banner has been upgraded with the proceeds from our recent raffle and had the full name of the ATA added to the top, so everyone now knows who we are. Again, many thanks to ENVIROMART for donating the prize and all who helped sell tickets.

As there are more and more public events being planned, I must advise that in order to be covered by the ATA, either on a visit or as a volunteer worker on the stall, you must be a financial member. This also gives you access to a whole new world of discounts and information, including a yearly subscription of RENEW (worth over $30-00 by itself), a full set of downloadable RENEW articles for free and a members only newsletter that contains a lot more info. Up until now, I have been pretty casual, but with these planned trips and visits, it is just too unwise not to be covered, so I urge all who are not yet members, to get your memberships in. You can do this either by mail or online at our website (www.ata.org.au). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or catch up at the meetings.

As for our next meeting, we will be having a movie afternoon that will include a very insightful lecture by Phil O’Donough (Bioneers) on the concepts of efficient planning and design. Not sure what the other will be, but be assured it will be topical. So, bring your comfy chair and popcorn and join us for an afternoon like non other in Cairns.

This newsletter will also be available on our very own Website (if I can figure out how to do it). Go to the ATA website above for details of how to access this and other notices.

For the new people that this letter is going out to, welcome aboard. We hope to see you at our get togethers that happen on the third Saturday of each month(this month it is the 20th March), between 2:00 and 4:00pm (with afternoon tea provided afterwards). Our usual meeting place is the ENVIROMART Shop on the corner of Scott St. and Aumuller St. on the Southern side of the Cairns CBD.

See you all there
