May 2007 Meeting – “Lighting Alternatives”
Chris Moss introduced the topic and the speakers.
Stuart Nesbitt From the Hume council. 44% of all greenhouse gases generated by a council are due to lighting. He discussed the history and problems associated with current street lighting and the development and change to an efficient Australian made fluorescent. This lighting uses only 55% of the energy of existing lights
Michael O’Connell then demonstrated various domestic lights including the great number of CFL alternatives and the newer LED options which are becoming available. He concluded with showing an 85 watt fluorescent and then beat that with a monster 200watt (1000watt incandescent equivalent) fluorescent lamp.
