May 2008 Meeting – Insulation AND Energy Audit Results
INSULATION
The topic of Insulation was covered by two presenters:
Bill Pemberton, of Scarab solutions, gave a comprehensive overview of the reasons for insulating and covered a range of insulation products.
Jason Bond, from The Environment Shop, brought along samples of the products and discussed their application and use.
Interesting aspects of the night were:
1. The negative comments on modern refrigerators (one of the great energy users)
2. The strong recommendation to go for R3.5 in a ceiling
3. The discussion on the benefits of “insulating paint” ie the ones containing ceramic beads
4. The recommendation for Rock Wool where sound insulation is a consideration (ie teenagers bedrooms!!)
5. The use of Air Cell
