Topic:
Domestic Air Conditioning – Past, Present and Future
Convener: Tim Hamer & Antoni Pisa
Synopsis:
This was an information session outlining the current issues of domestic A/C (power consumption, peak load, efficiency) and some examples of future technology that may offer major improvements in these aspects of performance, including solar technologies which are under development.
The Speakers were;
1. Tim Hamer & Antoni Pisa (ATA Melbourne Branch) – who presented information supplied by Sustainability Victoria on the current implications of Air conditioning on our power grid, and an overview of a study being undertaken by Dr Mike Dennis (ANU) on Domestic Solar Air Conditioning, including an introduction to some ground breaking technology that is currently under development.
2. Laurie Reeves (Melt) – who shared his knowledge of the Air Conditioning Industry and provided insight into some real world energy and efficiency initiatives that he has personally been involved with.
Note also the website www.fairair.com.au that was recommended by a couple of the speakers, for very helpful information on choosing air conditioning units of suitable size and performance. It was pointed out that it is often very difficult to find reliable information of this kind, when you are trying to make decisions.
