April 2009 Meeting – “Alternative Fuels for Heating and Transport”
This meeting was held at 5:45pm on Wednesday April 15th at the offices of URS, level 6 no1 Southbank boulevard, Southbank (Click here for a map)
The Topic:
Alternative Fuels for Heating and Transport – Convenor Peter Wonfor
This is another topic in our programme that is HUGE and one where there are probably no “absolute” answers.
Once again we had a couple of speakers who “set the scene” by talking about some options and then promoting dialogue and an interchange of experiences with members present.
The speakers for the evening were:
Ken Barnes from Pellet Fires Gippsland http://www.parkwoodfires.com.au
Ken described how the fuel is produced and the way it is used in pellet fires to optimise efficiency and be both renewable and carbon neutral (or close to it).
Ric Canale stepped in at short notice, and did an excellent job, talking about the production and chemistry and use of biodiesel (both commercial and domestic). He gave an introduction to how it can be made by the “home brewer”
PLEASE NOTE: We will record this meeting by putting the speakers PowerPoint presentation on this page as have included notes taken at the meeting (thanks to Paul Fritze).
