September 2008 Meeting – “Solar Hot Water Systems”

Solar Hot Water Systems – Convenor Peter Wonfor
The 3 speakers comprehensively covered the topic and the various options available. Ian Martin from Douglas Solar spoke on flat plates. Rick Rogers from AAE solar presented evacuated tubes and Chris Siddons, who is with Siddons Solar Stream, described their heat pump (reverse cycle airconditioning).
There were a huge amount of questions which, as usual, spilled over into the after meeting coffee discussion period. One interesting comment was the potential of a linked evacuated tube/heat pump system to capture the “free” sun heat and using the heat pump as the “booster”.
