This will be a joint meeting with the Australia New Zealand Solar Energy Society (ANZSES) and is also the ATA Annual Meeting involving election of Convenor and Treasurer. Note that there is no meeting in January and we re-convene on Tuesday February 9th 2010.

Program
Dr Monica Oliphant, President of the International Solar Energy Society and a member of ANZSES will present her experiences of solar cities all over the world. These cities and locations are working towards 100% renewable power and Moinca will cover activities in the Canary Isles, Iceland, Flinders Island (Bass Strait), Helsinki and Dezhou (China). She’ll describe district heating and cooling system in Helsinki using heat pumps and an evacuated tube solar water heater factory in China.

There’s also a segment called Who Can Help Me which is a chance to pose questions such as: Where can I buy it? How do I do it? Does anybody know about…? If you have anything of interest to show and tell or an event to report during this segment, bring it along.

Forthcoming meetings
February 9th: Presenter to be announced.

Convenor’s address for 2009
As the SA Branch Convenor, 2009 has been a particularly encouraging year. We’ve moved from the Tower Hotel into the new venue to accommodate increasing attendances. I sent a letter of appreciation to their management for allowing us to use the Function Room for many years, free of charge.

The ATA Branch committee of Jack Metcalf, Marianne Frommer, Steve Jenkins and Ian Dolman have been active in finding the venue and enabling a smooth transition. Thanks to Jack Metcalf for engaging an interesting programme of speakers. Thanks to Ian and Liddy Dolman for hosting our committee meetings at Ecolateral. Thanks also to Maxine Jones for adding some ‘warmth’ to our new venue by providing refreshments during the break.

The Designers Forum in October was a highlight in terms of interest and value to all who attended. Thanks to the four panel members and the 106 other attendees for making it such a success. Other presentations during the year included: Chevron Glass – energy efficient glazing, Home food production, Emissions trading, Green roofs and living walls, Shmeco website launch, Beyond Today development at Victor Harbour and Ecovillages.

Sustainable House Day was a great success and thanks to the many ATA and ANZSES members who contributed to its organisation.

We hosted an information stand at Uraidla Show and members spoke at various functions – as well as ringing talkback radio about sustainability issues. We also participated in a visit to Resource Co – thanks to Stewart Martin of ANZSES for organising the visit and inviting ATA members.
