Sydney Central: August 2009 Meeting
The next talk for Sydney Central Alternative Technology Association is by David Clarke, who manages the EarthPower business at Camellia and the topic is “Converting Food Waste to Renewable Energy”.
EarthPower Technologies is Australia’s first regional food waste-to-energy facility. Located at Camellia in Sydney’s west, Earthpower accepts source segregated food wastes from the industrial, commercial and domestic sectors and converts it to green energy and nutrient-rich soil conditioner. Earthpower uses anaerobic digestion technology to facilitate the conversion of solid and liquid food wastes using bacteria operating in a controlled environment. These produce methane which is used as a fuel for cogeneration engines which produce electricity. The digested food is dried using heat from the cogeneration engines to produce the nutrient-rich soil conditioner.
