Sydney Central: February 2009 Meeting
Our first meeting for Sydney Central ATA in 2009 is on Tuesday February 10th at 6pm – and we have been able to secure the same venue at Sydney Mechanics School of Arts, Lvl 3, 280 Pitt St Sydney.
Topic of our talk will be: Australian Innovation – the SMART FRIDGE – or how to “Keep your Beer and the Planet Cool” !! by Sam West, CSIRO, Energy Technology
Sam will tell us about the Smart Fridge, which consists of an intelligent bolt-on controller that can be fitted to new or existing fridges, cool rooms and cold stores. This is able to modify the compressor’s running schedule to improve the quality of green power supplied from Renewables, such as wind and solar.
Renewable generation sources, on their own, are difficult to use as a base-load generator replacement (traditionally supplied by coal) due to their fluctuating output and lack of storage. The Smart Fridges effectively transform a wind farm or solar field into a reliable, predictable base-load generator.
Sam West is a Research Engineer with the CSIRO Department of Energy Technology for the past four years after graduating with a Computer Engineering/Computer Science degree. His work with the Intelligent Energy project (part of the Federally-funded Energy Transformed Flagship), has made its way into the Smart Fridge, Opticool – the Intelligent Air-conditioning controller, and the Virtual Power Station.
Admission free. Enquiries and registration (only non-members of ATA need to register) to mary@aussierenewables.com.au
