Hawkesbury Forest Experiment

ATA Sydney West and the Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre are hosting a presentation on the Hawkesbury Forest Experiment (HFE) by one of the lead researchers, Professor David Ellsworth of the Centre for Plants and the Environment at the University of Western Sydney (UWS).

The experiment involves growing Eucalyptus saligna (native to the Hawkesbury region) under conditions expected in a future, higher CO2 world. The experiment involves chambers controlled at CO2 levels expected within the next 50 years. The whole-tree chambers can house entire trees up to 12 metres tall. This unique facility is the first of its type in Australia and the southern hemisphere.

David is a key member of the new Climate Change and Energy Research Facility being constructed at UWS, and he will provide a briefing on what they are studying and hope to discover at this new centre.

David’s talk will be followed by a tour of the HFE facility.
