Victorian government committing households to years of high water bills

Friday, July 31st, 2009

The state government has committed generations of Victorians to high water bills because of a failure to capture and harness the rain that falls on the city each year, says Australia’s leading sustainable living organisation, the Alternative Technology Association (ATA).

“It is unforgivable that the government has done nothing to harness the rain that falls, free of charge, on Melbourne, but is locking Victorians into paying for high quality drinking water to flush the toilet,” says Anjali Brown, ATA’s Water Policy Manager.

New desalination plant for WA will come at a high price

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

The NSW state government’s solar feed-in tariff legislation will see families taking 20 years or more to pay back the cost of their solar system, says Australia’s leading sustainable living organisation, the Alternative Technology Association (ATA).

Damien Moyse, ATA’s Energy Policy Manager, says the NSW government’s estimate of a 12 year pay back time is not backed by feed-in tariff modeling.

Friday, May 8th, 2009

One third of people who buy GreenPower could end up going back to using dirty, but cheaper electricity, due to the Federal Government’s proposed amendments to the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).

In a survey conducted by the Alternative Technology Association (ATA), 33% of people who already purchase GreenPower said that they would cease doing so if it did not make a difference to Australia’s overall greenhouse gas emissions, and a further 10% said they would strongly consider dropping GreenPower.
