The Alternative Technology Association (ATA), Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation working to support Australian households to live more sustainably, has appointed Ian Porter as its new Chief Executive Officer.

ATA president, Kane Thornton, says Ian Porter brings exceptional qualifications and many years experience in management and leadership in the environmental arena.

“Ian’s renowned expertise in climate change and environmental policy will ensure ATA remains at the forefront of the enormous debates, currently underway, around accelerating the uptake of sustainable technologies and practice in Australian households.”

Prior to joining the ATA, Ian Porter was the Executive Director of Sustainability Policy with the Victorian Government, and responsible for the landmark policy documents Victorian Greenhouse Strategy (2002) and the Greenhouse Challenge for Energy (2004).

In 2007, he moved to the Nous Group where he led the climate change department, working with the public and private sector to develop policy and respond to major challenges in the fields of climate change and energy.

“Ian is recognised as a leading thinker and policy maker in the climate change and environmental policy arena, resulting from his extensive engagement and involvement within and external to Government,” says Mr Thornton.
