    Strathewen & St Andrews Sustainable Rebuilding Project's workshop on Alternative Energy: wind & micro-hydro power

    ‘Strathewen & St Andrews Sustainable Rebuilding Project’ invites you to attend workshop number 5 in their series of workshops for 2012, designed to assist owner builders & renovators to make their homes as energy efficient as possible

    Workshop number 5 focuses on Alternative Energy: wind & micro-hydro power. Presenters include Craig Memery from the Alternative Technology Association The following topics will be covered:

    • What should you consider before choosing an alternative energy system for your home?
    • What are the essential requirements for your property to be suitable for wind power?
    • What are the pros and cons of wind / micro-hydro power?
    • What are the costs, maintenance issues and longevity of each type of system?
    • Are there rebates or incentives available?

    The workshop is free, with finger food provided. The workshop will be practical in focus with information sheets provided.

    Sustainable Environmental Practise-Reduce Energy Usage

    Third in the series of free talks for all the community on a variety of issues relating to how we all can change our life styles to reduce our global footprint.

    Reduce Your Energy Usage
    Emily Kempson studied Sustainability, works as a solar consultant at the Enviroshop in Northcote, and practises what she preachers, with a low energy bill that would be the envy of many. As well as learning about how your can reduce you energy use and the solar possibilities, this is a chance to have explained what all the flashing lights on your smart meter mean, and the figures on your energy bills. Bring along your most recent energy bills. There will be a prize for whoever has the lowest bill!

    ‘Strathewen & St Andrews Sustainable Rebuilding Project’ invites you to attend workshop number 6 in their series of workshops for 2012, designed to assist owner builders & renovators

    The focus of this workshop is Retrofitting your home & landscape to be better protected from bushfires. Presenters include Robyn Adams, Fire Ecologist and consultant with the CFA
    and Chris O’Kane, Artezen Construction (Builder)

    The following topics will be covered:
    •How does fire travel and behave?
    • What are the common ‘weak points’ for your home or garden/landscape surrounds?
    • How can you retro-fit your home to be better protected from bushfires?
    • How can you design and manage your surrounding landscape to be better protected from
    bushfires?

    Workshop Number 7 is an interactive workshop that focuses on Energy Efficiency in your home & Solar Hot Water. Presenters include John Knox from the Alternative Technology Association (ATA) and www.ridethetalk.com.au. The following topics will be covered:
    • In what ways do we commonly use the most energy and resources in our homes?
    • What are the top 5 low cost, most effective ways of reducing our resource usage?
    • What technologies are available to retrofit our homes to reduce our resource usage?
    • What are the options available for solar hot water and what are the pro’s and con’s?
    • What rebates and incentives are available?
