aburnett on "Evacuated tubes for pool heating - how many?"

We've completed a major renovation, and in the process removed the 25 year old solar heating system which was a John Sharpe design.

We kept the piping from the pool filter to the roof with the intention of installing a bank of evacuated tubes. The water from the roof goes through a heat exchange to heat the water going into the pool. That is, we don't pump pool water through the system at all.

The pool is about 65,000 litres, and indoors which is great for keeping leaves out but not so great for direct solar heating.

My question, given our Sydney location, is how many tubes will be enough to maintain a temperature of about 25-28 degrees? Or do we simply add 12, see how it goes, add another 12, and so on?

Commercial responses welcome.

Hi, I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to the Latento unit(google if you have not seen them before)to store heat from Solar and probably a wet back wood heater. Has anyone come across any Australian made systems or has anyone made their own?
I want to extract hot water for showers etc and for hydronic heating. I want to ensure the systems don't intermix so heat exchangers need to be part of the solution.

thanks in advance

Have an AGA which is used for cooking, heating the water and the majority of the house with its ambient heat. It is generating so much heat at times that it is boiling the open vented hot water tank in the roof. (I put my own coil around the hotbox and thermo syphon up to the tank above)

Intend to install one or two copper wall panels in the colder rooms to disperse the excess heat. Anyone done this? The hydronics guy I had initially has lost interest so intend to do it myself. Need copper panels and brass recirculating pump I guess? Any thoughts where I can get them?
Thanks GrahameM

Hey guys,
just wondering if anyone has experimented with earth/air heat exchangers (air tubes) for home cooling/heating in Australia, particularly in Perth. I was hoping to find out what issues came up in application and how successful it was. I am hoping to set up a horizontal grid system for a small house but wanted to check out the viability before I trench my entire back yard. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi everyone. I'm interested to get a feel for ppl's interest in investing in solar heated domestic hot water, pool heating and hydronics as a complete (pool heating an option)packaged purchase?
