What's perhaps more relevant for US is that, in the event of social collapse HERE, many people would quickly starve - once the stockpiles had run out - or once anarchy had set in and thse with guns had taken everything from those without (see USA gun culture).
But in the developing world, where so much of life is still on a subsistence basis, those people would be able to survive quite readily.
Even Aussie farmers would struggle to begin with, as most don't have a cow, wouldn't know how to milk it if they did, and generally buy meat from the supermarket, never mind veggies.
Urban areas would soon run our of water, and the sewerage would back up in the pipes making the area unliveable.
We who live in the regions and the bush should be vewy, vewy, scared.
