The Federal Government's climate change adviser, Professor Ross Garnaut, says putting a price on carbon will be a "test of Australia's democracy".

Professor Garnaut has released the seventh of eight updates to his 2008 report on climate change, this time focusing on technology.

He says the move to a low emissions economy does come at a cost as Australia would need to double its spending on innovation in low emissions technology to about $2.5 billion a year.

Interesting investigation results sponsored by skeptics.

Heat rises in the search for temperature data truth

Last week, Muller presented BEST's preliminary findings to a US congressional hearing. The results weren't what he, or the sceptics, expected.

"In our preliminary analysis of these stations, we found a warming trend that is shown in the figure. It is very similar to that reported by the prior groups: a rise of about 0.7 degrees Celsius since 1957," says Muller.

An interesting article by one of the younger journalists makes some good points.

Aim high on climate change action.

What makes this story a particularly sad one is that all of the political posturing which, frankly resembles an ostentatious fencing duel, has been played out in the public arena to no avail. We have (perhaps subconsciously) maintained Australia’s narrowly framed climate drama because at some level, we know that a carbon tax, an ETS or a CPRS just isn't going to cut it, and if you accept that then you’re really setting yourself up for some tough decision-making.

How do I choose between siding with the "convinced" (? fundamentalists) or with the "un-convinced" (sceptics or ? deniers)?

How do I avoid in-action caused by my inability to decide ?

If I choose, how do I stay open to examining conflicting information ?

If I choose, is it possible to not become emotionally involved and to not desperately try to convince everyone to join with my point of view ?

Having been involved with the use (also typically the abuse) of computer models, I am convinced that climate models cannot accurately predict the future.

The logic that is presented at

Sad to see how low some people can sink.

A number of the country's top climate change scientists, including several at the Australian National University (ANU), have been targeted by death threats and abusive phone calls for months.

But the situation has now worsened, and ANU has moved its scientists to a more secure location and introduced other security measures.

The Productivity Commission has backed the Federal Government's claims that other world economies are taking significant measures to combat climate change.

It says price-based mechanisms, such as the one planned for Australia, are the most effective and least costly way to reduce carbon pollution.
