Apart from the reasonably well publicised 'Inconvenient Truth' there are quite a few new, an old, movies available to watch and perhaps share with friends.

This year alone we have had released 3 excellent movies.

Changing Climate, Changing Times - a fictional possible future scenario based on the 2007 IPCC report. Available from SBS shop

Home by Yann Arthus Bertrand - actual aerial photographic view of current environmental degradation of the eath. Freely available on Youtube

Age of Stupid - a fictional possible future scenario of planet earth in 2055 - currently screening

A couple of oldies from as far back as 1958 predicting global warming consequences.

I often watch the TED talks to hear some of the worlds most knowledgeable people give their view on the progress we are making in the world. The one below is a good talk on how much has changed in the last 200 years among other things, related to the other topic "Are We Serious".

Part 2 of BURN UP is on ABC tonight at 8:30pm. Don't miss it.

Given the current Mexican Gulf crisis it is very connected to real world events and oil company disasters.

Also ABC Landline today at 12 has a good report on environmental concerns because of gas extraction in Qld. Gigalitres of underground water are being extracted as well.

The current Mexican Gulf disaster is certainly giving the US a wakeup call. Of course the UK had its own disaster back in the late 80's which wasn't as pad environmentally but cost the lives of many people on board. The Piper Alpha rig disaster from the BBC can be watched here. It's in 3 by 10min videos.

The E2 series on ABC2 at 8pm is very well produced. Last night it was about the Velib bicycle sharing system in Paris. It has proven very popular with many unexpected benefits. An increase in social networking and every day bicycle use not related to the service are a couple of them.

The success of the Vélib´ bike-sharing initiative has inspired cities like São Paulo, Venice and London to begin adopting similar programs of their own. It's on ABC Iview if you missed it.

Maybe there is hope after all. This short video applies an interesting technique. A palindrome reads the same backwards as forward. This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward.

Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite too.

Just to continue the theme, I know I've read someone here comment on "Gaslands", http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZe1AeH0Qz8 , which is an excellent doco

but I also just watched another unrelated but interesting/bizzare/scarey doco about the 2008 GFC called "Inside Job", http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzrBurlJUNk

I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't trust the banks, financiers and governments to do the right thing.
