Good comment Johnnojac, just wondering is anyone out there able to respond to the questions I raised in my post 2 weeks ago?

Andy, your reverse fan extraction idea should work fine, as long as the air coming in is much cooler. You would need to control air flow from the inlet vent somehow. With one fan close to the proposed roof outlet it should be fairly quiet, (depends on the type and speed of the fan) Would certainly be quieter than a 250mm exhaust fan in the bedroom ceiling. Re the hot roof space do you have RFI under the roof in addition to bulk ceiling insulation? I didn't put it in, should have, and am now doing it the hard way (albiet slowly)

Hi all, brand new to this forum. Nice to know I'm not alone with the issue of heat on the upper floor!
Lots of good ideas in these posts. Just wondering...has anyone thought of putting an extraction fan onto existing A/C ductwork and ducting / venting externally? Obviously you'd need a BTO and a couple of motorised dampers as well. My thinking is if it's cool (<23c) outside at night then I switch the A/C off, open windows in occupied rooms only, and turn on my extractor - the A/C outlets then suck heat out of the rooms and vent it. Running a 60-100W fan has got to be a better option than running the A/C.
I've been pondering this for two summers. I've also thought of adding vent ducting off the return air vent and using the existing A/C fan but this would mean doors would need to be open as well as windows.
2nd story gets full sun, is weathertex over foil with R3, clay tile roof, sarking and R3+ in the ceiling.
