Is it possible to replace a small halogen bulb (12V 50W) in a desk lamp with an LED?

yes, it's certainly possible, we did an article on LED bulbs in a recent issue. while they are not as bright as a 50 watt halogen, in a desk light (that must be a very bright desk you work at!) it should be fine.

They are all MR16 downlight type bulbs, but if your lamp uses another type of lamp, there are several suppliers of those now (email me for more info if you need it, lance@ata.org.au)
