The Spanish look like showing us a thing or three about how much energy we can produce from our sunshine... Not sure why it's part PV and not pure thermal, but hope it gets funding and approval to show that baseload solar is very real and very viable in Oz. Great news I think!

How strange, an Australian geothermal Company is actually working in Spain, and the Spanish Canary Islands. They are developing geothermal heating and power for Barcelona, and total replacement of the diesel generation in the Canaries, all with no Government support, just the funds of Australian shareholders.
Have the Spaniards not heard that they are actually de-commissioning one of those types of plants in the U.S.?

Peter, the Spanish proposal is not part solar thermal and part PV. The project is seeking money from the Australian Government's Solar Flagship Program which has $1.5 billion. The government will allocate the money up to 4 projects which will be solar thermal or PV. See government fact sheet

The Spanish project would be one of the projects which is solar thermal, while other projects could be either.
