Rogeralter,
I am a Sustainable Product Development manager for Intelligent Projects and have been working on our own product for BCA compliance.
This is not a simple process and you can blow a lot of money before you get far. Documentation alone is a nightmare.
While I will generally help people, this is a consultative service we offer since it is not a simple path. If you wish to talk to me, call Davide on 0438 006 059 or 07 3324 9770.

rogeralter,
I had a similar idea and wanted to import Chinese solar hot water systems to Australia. In order to be able to qualify for RECs the systems must be assessed to be compliant to a number of Australian standards; essentially a solar hot water system standard, the 'WaterMark' standard for plumbing products and the electrical standard because there is an electrical booster in the tank.I gave up because alone the paperwork (including a trip of an assessor to China) would have been more than $20,000. And the real test would have been a similar cost on top of that.
I can understand the need to make sure that materials have a certain quality standard. But I cannot understand such a large amount of money especially as a number of these systems have already the complete European approval. This looks like an artificial barrier to protect Australian producers of solar hot water systems.

There you go Roger. It's a lot of paperwork but if you believe can get your return ... go for it. Allow a minimum of 6 months but reality is 12 months if you go Codemark way.

I agree, the regulations we have here in Oz constantly stifle innovation here. We are so far behind the rest of the world, it's depressing sometimes! And the sad thing is, as has been clearly demonstrated by the recent insulation debacle, the regulations don't work anyway...
