Insulation rebates

Scheme Type Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT) Energy Audit State Government Rebate
Eligible Renewable Technology/Item Energy-saving devices and energy-efficient household changes
Applicable Sector Owner-occupied or rented houses and semi-detached houses built before 1996.
Rebate Amount A HEAT audit will cost $30, but following the consultation the State Government will rebate $500 for any expenditure over $2000 on changes suggested by the auditor. Those who claim  the rebate will also have their $30 audit fee refunded.
Additional Information Household improvements that could qualify you for the rebate include:

  • Ceiling insulation, including a top up of existing insulation.
  • Underfloor and cavity wall insulation.
  • Window pelmets.
  • Lined block-out curtains (or equivalent blinds).
  • Double glazed windows, including window treatments that achieve a similar effect, such as plastic film
  • Insulation of hot water pipes

Renewable electricity rebates

Scheme Type ACT Electricity Feed-in Tariff Scheme
Eligible Renewable Technology/Item Currently solar photovoltaic and wind systems.
Applicable Sector All ACT electricity customers except non educational government agencies.
Rebate Amount From 1 March 2009 until 30 June 2010 the Premium Price will be 50.05 cents per kWh generated for systems up to 10kW. For systems between 10kW and 30kW a rate of 40.04 cents per kWh will be paid.

The ACT Feed-in Tariff Scheme is based on gross generation, so you are paid for each unit of electricity that you generate.

Additional Information The Premium Price is set annually. However, when you enter into an arrangement with your electricity supplier you are guaranteed payment of the Premium Price prevailing at that time for the full 20 years of your agreement.

Water rebates

Rebate Type ACT government ‘Think Water, Act Water’ rebate schemes
Eligible Renewable Technology/Item Water Saving Devices and Technologies
Applicable Sector Households
Rebate amount ToiletSmart Program The 2009 ToiletSmart program assists ACT residential property owners to replace single flush toilets with four-star, water efficient 4.5/3 litre dual flush toilets.

A maximum of two rebates may be claimed per metered premises.

Gardensmart Service Free service valued at $150. A qualified horticulturalist will pop in to share advice on how to save water outdoors of the home. You are also eligible for rebates on selected water saving devices up to $50.
Water Tank Rebate $750 for a tank 2000-3999 litres.

$900 for a tank 4000-8999 litres.

$1000 for 9000+ litres.

Above rebates are only applicable to rainwater tanks that are internally plumbed to your toilet or laundry.

A rebate of $600 exists to internally plumb your existing rainwater tank.

Additional Information The rebates for rainwater tanks are area specific depending on whether rainwater tanks are mandatory in your area.
