Renewable electricity rebates

Scheme Type South Australia’s Solar Feed-In Scheme
Eligible Renewable Technology/Item Solar photovoltaic
Applicable Sector Household, small business, community building, church or other facility that consumes less than 160 MWh of electricity per annum
Rebate Amount 44c/kWh wil be paid for every unit of electricity you return to the grid. A net- based scheme.
(Some retailers paying an additional 6/7c above legislated rate – policy review in late 2009).
Additional Information Applies to exisiting and new systems that have a ‘bi-directional’ or ‘import/export’ meter.

Solar hot water rebates

Rebate type South Australian Government Solar Hot Water Rebate
Eligible renewable technology/item Solar hot water systems.
Applicable sector Households
Rebate amount The South Australian Government’s Solar Hot Water Rebate Scheme provides a rebate of $500 on the cost of a new solar or electric heat pump water heater system installed on or after 1st July 2008.
Additional information The rebate scheme is targeted at low income households to encourage them to uptake high-efficiency gas, solar and electric heat pump water heaters. To qualify for the rebate, your water heater must be eligible for at least 18 Renewable Energy Certificates(RECs), and you must hold at least one of the following Australian Government Concession Cards:

  • Centrelink Health Care Card
  • Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card – Totally and Permanently Incapacitated
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card – War Widow
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs – Extreme Disablement Adjustment

Water rebates

Rebate type South Australian Water (SA Water) Rebate Scheme
Eligible renewable technology/item Water saving devices and technologies
Applicable sector Households and not for profit organisations
Rebate amount The following rebates applies to purchases made on or after 1 November 2007:

  • Up to $30 for a low-flow (3 stars or more) showerhead.
  • $150 for retrofitting a dual flush toilet suite.
  • $200 for the purchase of a new water efficient (4 stars or more) washing machine.
  • $50 rebate when you spend $150 or more on specified water efficient garden goods.
  • $100 rebate for a Home Water Audit plus the installation of up to 2 free low flow showerheads.
  • Between $200 and $1000 towards the cost of purchasing and plumbing a rainwater tank to retrofit into your homewater efficient shower heads, flow restrictors installed by a registered plumber, and tap timers. $400 rebates are on offer for new or existing rainwater tanks.
Additional information Whether you’re a customer of SA water will decide whether or not you get the rebate as a cheque or as a deduction off your next water bill. SA water is planning on capping the rainwater rebate program at half a million dollars over four years.
